Understanding prepayment
A part-prepayment pays down principal in one go. You can keep the EMI and finish earlier (biggest interest saving) or keep the tenure and reduce the EMI (more breathing room each month). Floating-rate home loans usually allow it free; check your loan's prepayment terms.
Reducing tenure saves the most interest. Reducing EMI helps if monthly cash flow is tight.
Floating-rate loans to individuals are usually free of prepayment charges; fixed-rate loans may carry one. Your sanction letter states it.
